Under 5 hours left of transfer deadline day, and still plenty of business to clear up.

As things stand, Sky Sports News are reporting that Portsmouth and Croatia midfielder Niko Kranjcar has passed a medical at Spurs this morning, and a deal will be announced within a few hours.

Kranjcar’s team mate David James appears to be staying at Fratton Park. SSN report he has turned up at the Portsmouth training ground this morning, and hasn’t left. This would indicate that a deal is not going to be completed.

Someone who has left the training ground is Mr David Bentley. SSN showed the midfielder leaving in a friends car this morning. Reporters asked if he was off to Manchester, but there was no reply.

It is expected that Bentley will be joining City ON LOAN, with Petrov moving the other way.

There has been no talk of possible deals with Sandro, Muntari, or Chavez. I will update as I get more information…..

Updates will appear below

1.02pm - SSN reports that Portsmouth have received NO OFFERS for David James

1.07pm – Kranjcar deal will be completed soon, but player has already left to rejoin the Croatia squad to continue preparations for clash with England.

1.40pm – I’m going to have a shower!

2.33pm – Man City: We won’t be signing Bentley

3.32pm – Paul Merson is ‘majorly surprised somebody like Arsenal wasn’t looking at’ Kranjcar – Link

4.51pm – Anton Ferdinand reportedly joining on loan from Sunderland, with Alan Hutton going the other way

4.58pm – Ignore last update. Sunderland have now stated that Ferdinand is NOT leaving!

5.05pm – Niko Kranjcar deal has been confirmed on official spurs website.

With the transfer window fast drawing to a close, be prepared for plenty of rumours and wild speculation in the coming days. The latest reports suggest that Pavlyuchenko has requested a transfer, with Spartak Moscow ready to offer £10million to re-sign him – £4million less than the club paid for him a year ago.

This story may have an element of truth as the Russian striker has to fight for a place in Russia’s world cup squad, and may find it difficult if he spends the season warming the Spurs’ bench. Also, he has not come out and stated his desire to stay with the club as Modric did after the media linked him with a mve to United.

If Redknapp had a choice he’d surely prefer to keep Pavlyuchenko at WHL, as he has stated on numerous occasions how important it is to have 4 top strikers in the squad. News of the Russian’s impending departure has reignited reports of a move for Real Madrid’s Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Apparently we inquired about his availability before the start of the season, but the deal was seen as too expensive. With the Dutchman’s wage demands thought to be around £90,000 per week could a deal be possible. Madrid have reportedly reduced their asking price to £6million, is this still to much for a 33-year-old?

The ex-United striker has a proven goal scoring record. Since leaving Old Trafford he has amassed an impressive 45 goals in 67 appearances for the Spanish giants (0.67 goals per game, or 1 goal every 1 and half matches!). For the Premiership champions his strikerate was similar.

van Nistelrooy missed the majority of last season following a bad injury to his knee, and therfore his fitness has to be in question. Any thoughts? Would you pay £6million for him? Is he a good replacement for Pavlyuchenko IF the russian leaves us?

According to Sky Sports Harry Redknapp has made a move for Honduran defender Osman Chavez after a glowing reference from our midfield general Wilson Palacios.

The question all Spurs fans will be asking themselves is; Who is he, and is he any good?!

The 25-year-old currently plays for Club Deportivo Platense in Honduras but is allegedly on his way to London to face a medical examination before putting pen to paper on a Tottenham contract.

With injuries to Woodgate and Dawson, along with Ledley’s ongoing fitness problems, it seems Harry is keen to ensure the squad has plenty of back-up in defense. Let’s hope that Palacios has a good eye for talent….

The British representative of Chavez told Sky News;

There is interest in Osman, but we cannot go into any details at this stage.

Source: Sky Sports

The player himself is reportedly very excited with the prospect of joining the premier league leaders. Watch this space – I’ll try and find out more information on Chavez and the prospective transfer….

It’s just 10 days until the summer transfer window draws to a close, and so far we have spent in the region of £25-30million (depending on the source) bringing in Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton from Sheffield Utd, Sébastien Bassong from Newcastle, and – of course – Peter Crouch from Portsmouth.

The majority of this investment has been reclaimed with the departures of Darren Bent (Sunderland) and Didier Zokora (Sevilla) respectively.

So now the burning question is; Do we need to bring in more players before the transfer window closes?

It’s rumoured that Harry is chasing either Scott Brown or Aiden McGeady – or even both – from Celtic after he was spotted in the stands during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday evening.

I’ll be honest here and say I don’t know much about either. I’m not a huge fan of the SPL I’m afraid! But, it appears (if the rumour mill is to be believed) that Celtic are holding out for a £10million bid for Brown – who won the PFA Scotland Player of the Year Award last season.

This appears to have put off the Tottenham management, and their attention has allegedly turned to McGeady. According to Wikipedia he is renowned for his dribbling and trickery and can play on either wing or up front.

Looking at each player’s respective profiles they seem very different players. Brown is said to be a powerful central midfielder in the style of Roy Keane, whilst McGeady is more of a flair player. Either would be a useful addition to the squad – but whether they are good enough to displace any of our first team is doubtful.

With our midfield quartet of Palacios, Lennon, Modric and Huddlestone/Jenas playing so well together, plus dos Santos, O’ Hara, and Bentley as back-up do we need more? Maybe the rumours linking Jenas and Bentley with moves to Villa are in the pipeline after all?

Comments please……
