I don’t live in Tottenham, and haven’t done for many years now. But, it is with great regret and disgust that I see the images of the trouble in Tottenham last night.

A peaceful protest from the local community who need (and rightly so) answers with regards to the shooting of a man by the police on Thursday. However, this incident is being independently investigated by the IPCC. A peaceful protest is fine, but what this progressed into is disgusting.

Tottenham high street is destroyed… firefighters attended 49 primary fires… 26 police officers injured, 2 seriously.

There is NEVER an excuse for violent behaviour like this to take place. The majority of people in Tottenham are law abiding, friendly, respectful people. It appears that a small minority of mindless thugs have taken it upon themselves to drag Tottenham into disrepair.

All you achieve when behaving in this way is the loss of support for your cause. This is NEVER the correct way to voice your concerns, it only serves to force others to abandon you as a lost cause.

To all those mindless idiots, grow up. When you have become a mature adult you may find you will achieve more by abstaining from violence.

Sorry… just realised I have used too many big words in this article that you idiots will not be able to understand.

For information purposes, Tottenham Hotspur FC have announced that they have cancelled all stadium tours for today and tomorrow for safety reasons. So, you mindless thugs have also ruined a great day out for families and young Spurs fans that would have been looking forward to this day for a long time.

Rant over… for now

22nd of November 2009 was a wet day in N17 but it was ahot on the pitch as we humiliated Wigan Athletic by nine goals to one. With Jermain Defoe playing his best football we have seen in years and a creative midfield behind him the skies seemed the limit for our nimble forward. So in to the 2010/11 season, the first year we were in the champions league, we had just signed Rafael Van Der Vaart, Bale had blossomed into the player we were all told he would become and more importantly the year ended in a 1. Now I am aware that we have had limited time from Jermain Defoe on the pitch but from 10 Premier League games so far this season we have seen a return of 0 goals, suddenly 35 million for Andy Carroll or 15 million for Suarez looks like an appetizing deal, and although Pavlyuchenko is capable of a moment of brilliance and Crouch’s goal scoring record in the Champions League they both lack the natural strikers instinct due to poor movement and badly timed runs shown best by Crouch at away at Everton and Pav whenever he plays. I hope we finish in the top 4 and I hope Levy and Redknapp bring in a striker of real quality in the summer so we can be talking of another world class player at the club along with Bale Modric and Vaart and hopefully push for greater and better things. However until this is addressed or we start scoring I cannot see us progressing further forward as a football club

There is much for me to be happy about at the end of yet another transfer window:

We got Krancjar

We didn’t get James (did we ever really need him?)

Pav, Hudd, and JJ are still Spurs players

After his performance against Doncaster, not seeing Bentley go also has some sort of satisfaction

Of course there may be a few Yids left feeling a little disappointed with today’s transactions. Maybe some of us would have liked Petrov swapped out for Bentley; possibly a last gasp bid for Young would have brought a smile to many a Yid face. Or maybe some of us are genuinely gutted we didn’t get the man of a 1000 hair-do’s David James!

There is a reality at the Lane which has not existed for sometime – we didn’t really need anyone! If there is any doubt about this look at the league cup tie against Doncaster.

I remember a conversation I had some seasons ago and someone asked the question, “What sets the top 4 apart from the rest of the league?”. My instinctive answer was, “When a team can send out a reserve side in the league cup and progress comfortably, that is when you know you have a top 4 team”.

The Doncaster game proved beyond a doubt for me we now have the strength and depth at Spurs to compete at the top level. We have the depth to cope with most injuries and suspensions that may cost us first team players.

And when we get King, Dawson, Woody, Jenas, and Bale fit ……… oh my goodness!!! Plus we have players loaned out all over the place honing their talents. When have we ever have had a squad that looked so good?

If Modric had not become injured on Saturday I still feel Krancjar (or Petrov) would have signed today anyway. Left midfield is our weak link so this was clearly a position Harry needed to shop for Modric injury or not.

The key for this final day of transfers was not who we bought. The fact that we didn’t sell anyone was the big story of the day. And it must be said Harry and the board must have worked some minor miracles to convince Pav to stay, as well as a few others I might add.

I am a very happy Yid this evening and now look forward to a great Autumn of football for us.

And for those that were less than enthralled at 17:00 today all I can say is at least get behind Harry and his glorious team for now ………. January is just a few months away!

Like to talk about your team? Have an opinion that you’d like to share with others? Fancy the chance to become a published author?! Then write articles for TottenhamChat.com.

It’s simple to get set up. You just need to email me at authors@tottenhamchat.com with the following information;

First Name
Surname
Preferred Username
Password.

I will then set you up with an author’s account at TottenhamChat.com. I told you its simple!

You will need to be able to use WordPress. If you don’t know how to use it, don’t worry, it’s very easy – you simply write a post and click ‘publish’…..

I really want as many fans as possible to be here writing their articles for the site, ESPECIALLY those who are regulars at WHL. Match reports are very welcome.

Before you ask – NO, I will not be paying you to write! This is an opportunity to write about your team, and enjoy the recognition from others. Of course, if Google come and buy the site for £23million, then I will share the wealth with you. However, I’d say this scenario is highly unlikely….

If the site does become popular, then there is a chance of selling advertising space. If this happens – and it is much more likely than Google buying me out – then we can talk about sharing any profits.

As things stand, this site is just a hobby. I’m just trying to create a community of Spurs fans who enjoy writing to join us. If you have aspirations to be a sports writer, now is your chance.

Before I start, it is important to note that the majority of West Ham Utd and Milwall fans are good, non-violent people. I am only referring to the thugs who seemed to enjoy damaging the reputation of English football last night.

Dear West Ham/Milwall supporters involved in last night’s disgusting scenes,

You are a complete disgrace and you have no place in our football community. You are grown men, and yet you act like children. Not only this, but you tarnish the reputation of your clubs, and English football as a whole – so, thanks for that.

We all love the game, and rivalry is part of that enjoyment. As a Spurs fan I would never aim to hurt, or even insult a Arsenal fan. The reason being, I am an adult. I do not hate others for supporting another team, I respect them as another human being. Your behaviour is idiotic and childish.

I enjoy taking the p*ss out of the Arsenal, but I do so with a smile on my face. Friendly rivalry is encouraged, violence has NO PART in the beautiful game.

We are bidding to host the World Cup in 2018. Would you like to see the world’s best players on display throughout our country? Your actions last night can only harm that bid, and I for one do not appreciate that.

It’s time you grew up and sorted yourselves out. I hope your respective clubs find you, and ban you from football for life – as they have said they will. After all, you cannot be considered real fans anyway. You are simply thugs using football as an excuse for violence.

Yours sincerely,

A football fan who knows how to behave……

P.S. I also extend this letter to any football ‘fan’ who uses threats, and personal insults to fans of other clubs. This includes any of my fellow Spurs’ fans who feel it necessary to write offensive messages to Arsenal fans on forums. Be the bigger man and act with some respect for your fellow England fan.

Tottenham will finish in the top four – according to Hull boss Phil Brown that is.

From a neutral’s point of view you have probably seen a team in the top four this season, no doubt.

We didn’t apply ourselves from minute one or get close enough to Tottenham to keep ourselves in the game.

I thought there was a gulf between the two teams in terms of class, quality and the performance.

Every player on the field of play for Tottenham was outstanding. That’s one of the best performances I have seen in the Premier League.

Source: The London Paper

Whereas I am hopeful we will enjoy a much better this year than we endured last season, I’m not sure we are ready for the top four quite yet.

In fact, I predict that the top four of United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will remain unchanged this year – despite Man City’s attempts to buy themselves a slice of the action.

But, I also believe the gap is closing with ourselves, City, and Villa all chasing the leading pack. Realistically, we need to be aiming to finish at the top of this pile (aka 5th place). This I DO believe we are capable of.

It is very easy to get excited and over-ambitious after the perfect start to the season, but let us not forget that there are still 36 Premiership games to go.

Is 5th place a realistic target this season?

I have started this site as a hobby – and something to do during hours of boredom. The perfect antidote for boredom is to talk about something you are passionate about – there was only one choice!

If someone reads and enjoys this blog, then great. If not – well, I’ve still cured my boredom…..

Seriously though, I hope you enjoy my random thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur, football in general, and even some random thoughts along the way too.

If you would like to cure your boredom and would like to write articles then I can set you up with a author’s account on the site. Feel like you deserve to be listened to?
